New Delhi, Aug 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended greetings on World Sanskrit Day, highlighting the ancient language's enduring contribution to India's knowledge, philosophy, culture and intellectual traditions.
VP Radhakrishnan described Sanskrit as the “timeless language of India's knowledge, philosophy, and civilization”, while PM Modi said the language has been a continuous carrier of India's knowledge, thought and creativity.
In a post on X, Vice President Radhakrishnan said: “Heartfelt greetings on World Sanskrit Day. Sanskrit is the timeless language of India's knowledge, philosophy, and civilization.”
He said Sanskrit has shaped India's rich cultural heritage and intellectual traditions “for ages untold” and called for collective efforts to preserve and promote the language.
“Let us resolve to preserve, promote, and propagate this invaluable treasure of Sanskrit, connecting future generations to its eternal tradition of wisdom while enhancing its significance in the modern world,” Radhakrishnan said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his greetings on the occasion and highlighted Sanskrit's continuing relevance to India's intellectual and cultural heritage.
In his Sanskrit message, PM Modi said: “Greetings on World Sanskrit Day. Today, on the day of Shravan Purnima, we celebrate the eternal richness of Sanskrit.”
He said the language has been a continuous carrier of India's knowledge, thought and creativity and that its positive influence can still be seen across several fields.
“On this special day, we appreciate all those in India and around the world who study and teach Sanskrit and who are striving to pass on the timeless treasure contained in it to the next generation,” PM Modi said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended greetings on World Sanskrit Day, describing Sanskrit as the foundational basis of India's tradition of knowledge, culture and consciousness.
“Sanskrit, the foundational bedrock of India’s tradition of knowledge, culture, and consciousness, is as ancient as it is enriched from a scientific perspective,” HM Shah said.
He noted that the Vedas, Upanishads and Shastras, composed in Sanskrit, have been illuminating the path of knowledge for humanity for centuries.
“My respectful salutations to all scholars and teachers who have made unforgettable contributions to the preservation and dissemination of the Sanskrit language,” he said.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also greeted people on the occasion, calling Sanskrit an invaluable heritage of India's civilisation and a language deeply connected with the country's tradition of knowledge and cultural consciousness.
“Sanskrit is the invaluable heritage of our great civilization, rich tradition of knowledge, and cultural consciousness,” she said.
CM Gupta highlighted Sanskrit's role in the Vedas, Upanishads, philosophy, literature and science, saying it has enriched India's knowledge and thought for centuries.
“Let us strengthen our resolve for the preservation, promotion, and dissemination of Sanskrit. Victory to Sanskrit, Victory to India!” she said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also extended his greetings to Sanskrit enthusiasts, scholars and residents of the state on World Sanskrit Day.
“In the prestige of India, there are two Sanskrits: Sanskrit and culture,” CM Yogi said.
He described Sanskrit as more than a language, calling it “the divine expression of India's eternal tradition of knowledge, philosophy, science, and culture.”
“Let us all resolve to preserve, promote, and widely propagate the divine language,” the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said.
World Sanskrit Day is observed to celebrate the ancient Indian language and its extensive contribution to literature, philosophy, science, spirituality and the country's broader intellectual tradition. The occasion also serves as a platform to encourage the study, teaching and preservation of Sanskrit among younger generations.
